The sixth season of Ranked Battles in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set to launch at the end of January and will run through most of February. During this period, trainers will have the opportunity to earn the exclusive Swampertite Mega Stone. Players who successfully climb to Rank S will also gain another chance to collect several Mega Stones that were previously distributed in earlier seasons.
Since its release in October 2025, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has quickly become one of the top-performing titles on the Nintendo Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition alone sold more than one million physical copies in Japan, placing it alongside major hits such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. Meanwhile, the original Switch version has surpassed 1.5 million copies sold in Japan. Combined, these results made Pokemon Legends: Z-A the second best-selling Nintendo title in late December 2025, trailing only Mario Kart World.

Season Schedule and Special Rewards
Season 6 officially begins on Thursday, January 29, at 1:00 AM Eastern Time and concludes on Wednesday, February 18, at 8:59 PM Eastern Time. When the new season starts, all players will have their rankings reset to Rank Z. Trainers still have a limited window to complete Season 5 battles before the reset occurs.
Reaching Rank S during Season 6 grants players the Swampertite Mega Stone, allowing Swampert to Mega Evolve and significantly boost its physical Attack stat. Additionally, players who progress through Ranks Y to U can obtain Mega Stones that were previously available, including Greninjite, Delphoxite, Chesnaughtite, Baxcalibrite, and Sceptilite. Participation in Ranked Battles requires players to connect online and update the game to Version 2.0.1.
Patch 2.0.1 Improvements
Season 6 arrives alongside recent improvements introduced in Patch 2.0.1, released on January 21. One of the most notable changes is the increase in the Mega Shard storage limit, which has been raised from 999 to 9,999. This adjustment makes it much easier for players to save shards for valuable items such as Genesect Plates and certain Technical Machines.
The update also allows players to purchase berries and feathers in bulk, simplifying the process of managing Effort Values (EVs). Since EV optimization plays a crucial role in competitive battles, trainers aiming for higher ranks are encouraged to carefully fine-tune their team’s stats.
Eligible Pokemon for Season 6
Season 6 Ranked Battles will allow the use of:
- All Pokemon listed in Lumiose Pokedex Entries #001 to #232
- All Pokemon listed in Hyperspace Pokedex Entries #001 to #132
However, there are restrictions on Legendary Pokemon. Each team may include only one of the following:
- Xerneas
- Yveltal
- Zygarde
- Mewtwo
- Kyogre
- Groudon
- Rayquaza
Players are also prohibited from using multiple Pokemon with the same Pokedex number. Additionally, all Pokemon will automatically be adjusted to Level 50 during Ranked Battles to ensure fair competition.
Competitive Outlook
Although the Legendary restrictions limit team stacking, trainers still have access to many powerful Pokemon. Strong contenders such as Tyranitar, Metagross, and Dragonite remain available, offering plenty of strategic options for competitive play. With a wide roster of eligible Pokemon and valuable rewards at stake, Season 6 is shaping up to provide an exciting challenge for trainers aiming to climb the ranks.
