Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has officially revealed Ranked Battle Season 41, set to begin on April 1. This upcoming season will mark the final competitive season for Generation 9. However, based on past trends, the game’s online services are expected to remain active for the foreseeable future.
It has been nearly three and a half years since Scarlet and Violet first launched, during which time the games have consistently introduced new Ranked Battle seasons on a monthly cycle.
Season 41 Kicks Off April 1
The announcement for Season 41 was made through an in-game notice on March 1. The season will follow Regulation Set I, maintaining the same late-stage competitive format players have become familiar with.
Two major changes will accompany this final season. Monthly rankings will no longer be tracked, and players will no longer receive end-of-season rewards based on their placement. These adjustments reflect Game Freak’s decision to discontinue future seasonal updates. While Ranked Battles will still be playable under the same rules, the traditional cycle of monthly resets and rewards is coming to an end.
Regulation Set I Overview
Regulation Set I introduces a dual-restricted format, allowing players to use almost any Pokemon available in Scarlet and Violet, including those transferred via Pokemon HOME, with the exception of Mythical Pokemon. Teams can include up to two Legendary Pokemon.
The eligible roster spans the first 400 entries of the Paldea Pokedex, 242 from the Blueberry Pokedex, and 200 from the Kitakami Pokedex. Certain regional forms are also permitted, such as Alolan Raichu, Meowth, and Persian, as well as Galarian Meowth, Weezing, and the Legendary Birds.
As in previous formats, all Pokemon are set to level 50, and duplicate held items are not allowed. Terastallization remains fully enabled, allowing Pokemon to change types and gain strategic advantages during battle.

Online Battles Expected to Continue Long-Term
Although the end of seasonal updates may suggest that Scarlet and Violet are nearing the end of their competitive lifecycle, historical patterns indicate otherwise. Previous Pokemon titles have maintained online functionality for many years, as long as the platform’s online services remained active.
Since both the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 share the same online infrastructure, it’s likely that Ranked Battles will continue to be available well into the future—potentially for a decade or more.
Looking Ahead to Generation 10
In related news, Pokemon Winds and Waves was officially announced on February 27, with a planned release in 2027. Details about its gameplay and competitive features remain scarce.
