  • Ashenfall Unveiled: A New Chapter in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

    Posted: 2025-04-13

Ashenfall Unveiled: A New Chapter in RuneScape: Dragonwilds In the expansive world of Gielinor, home to RuneScape’s legendary adventures, players have long explored thriving cities, haunted forests, and perilous deserts. Now, the saga continues with RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a survival-based spinoff that unveils Ashenfall — a long-lost continent once believed to be erased from the annals of time. Unlike the familiar territories of RuneScape, Ashenfall is raw and unclaimed, where danger lurks at every turn. To survive, players must master the wild: wield ambient magic, build shelters, hunt, cook, craft, and fend off fearsome creatures in this harsh, untamed frontier. Speaking with Game Rant, Dragonwilds executive producer Jesse America stressed that survival skills—like cooking, crafting, and chopping wood—are key to thriving in this RuneScape open-world spinoff. While there will still be combat and MMO-style elements, Dragonwilds leans heavily into the survival genre. That means Ashenfall is a far wilder, harsher place than anything RuneScape fans have explored before. Wild Magic Reigns Supreme in Ashenfall Ashenfall was forever changed by a strange event that released wild magic—called anima—across the land. This powerful energy fuels the game’s magic system, letting players cast spells during and outside of combat. But anima isn’t entirely safe. Its presence has twisted many of Ashenfall’s creatures, making them more aggressive and more likely to attack anyone who crosses their path. Wild magic isn’t just for fighting in Dragonwilds—it’s also a handy tool for everyday survival in Ashenfall. Sure, you can sling fire and wind in combat, but as Jesse America pointed out, magic grows with your skills. "There are a couple of spells where you just whirl down a few trees and convert them into wood with another spell," he said. It’s all about streamlining the survival experience and making life a bit easier out in the wild. Dragons Lurk at Every Turn — A Relentless Threat Awaits Ashenfall isn’t your average survival sandbox. Sure, you’ll gather resources and build homes—but dragons rule this land, and they won’t let you forget it. As Jesse America explained, dragons will mainly serve as high-level, endgame challenges, but their presence casts a long shadow. Even in the early game, players will feel the tension of living in a world where danger could come from above at any moment. At the heart of Ashenfall’s greatest dangers stands the Dragon Queen — a formidable, boss-tier enemy far more powerful than any of her minions. However, as Jesse America confirmed, players won’t face her right away. Combat with the Dragon Queen is planned for a future update. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is set to follow a consistent update cadence, with minor updates arriving monthly and major content drops released quarterly and annually. As such, players can expect the Dragon Queen’s arrival in a future expansion not too far off. Visit MMOWOW to get cheapest Runescape Gold on the web. • RuneScape finally fixes EOC’s biggest flaws by combat rework

    Posted: 2024-03-05

A large-scale rework to RuneScape’s combat is now live and it aims to fix the biggest problems with Evolution of Combat twelve years after the controversial update was first introduced. Most RuneScape players will be familiar with Evolution of Combat, more commonly referred to as EOC. The divisive update was released in November 2012 and saw the popular MMORPG’s once simplistic combat mechanics become more complex and ability-based. This update was one of the main reasons behind the creation of Old School RuneScape, a classic rendition based on a 2007 version of Jagex’s signature game. It has since grown far beyond that with updates bringing new life to an otherwise classic experience. The main game still lives on though and Evolution of Combat continues to play an important role. However, twelve years on its flaws have become more apparent pushing the developers to address EOC’s biggest problems as part of a huge combat rework. RuneScape’s combat is getting overhauled Looking to bring RuneScape’s three original combat styles in line with Necromancy, Jagex has introduced a large-scale update to combat that fixes many of the current system’s biggest flaws. Combat made more fluid – improvements for the original three combat styles to modernize them closer to Necromancy. Clearer tooltips, labels, and descriptions to help you understand combat and make decisions in the moment. Overhaul of accuracy, so it impacts damage rather than chance to hit, removing splashing from RuneScape. Never miss an Ultimate again! Improvements to Critical Strike and the damage ranges of abilities so that you are more consistently in control and less at the mercy of RNG. The main goal of these changes is to not only bring Magic, Melee, and Range in line with Necromancy but also improve the overall feel and accessibility of RuneScape’s combat. In addition to the large rework of EOC’s core systems, the combat update also sees most abilities, Special Attacks, and several weapons rebalanced to make them more competitive. Though only time will tell what the meta ends up being it’s not out of the question that iconic Special Attacks like the Dragon Claws, Dragon Battleaxe, and Armadyl Godsword could play an important role once again.
