  • League of Legends adds unpopular TPM 2.0 requirement

    Posted: 2024-05-06

LoL players with older Windows 11 systems may face difficult choices. Riot Games announced that it would implement Vanguard anti-cheat software in League of Legends (LoL) in late February or early March 2024. It eventually did so in LoL’s Patch 14.9, which Riot released on May 1. However, this change has caused some players to get the VAN9001 error and prevented them from playing the game. The development team knew the new software implementation would be a big issue with its player base, so they wrote an in-depth explanation of anti-cheat, Vanguard, and LoL about three weeks ago on the League of Legends blog. Nevertheless, many were still caught by surprise, especially those who bypassed the TPM 2.0 requirements when upgrading to Windows 11. Microsoft initially mandated the TPM 2.0 requirement to upgrade to Windows 11; however, you can easily bypass the TPM and other requirements, allowing you to upgrade from Windows 10 (or an even older version of Windows) without the necessary hardware. Vanguard requires an active TPM 2.0 if you’re running Microsoft’s latest operating system. According to mirageofpenguins, an anti-cheat artisan with Vanguard, “while Microsoft originally intended to require one for all new Windows 11 installations, their actual implementation of this enforcement was relatively weak and easily bypassable. We took them up on their original offer and instead elected to enforce it ourselves. So, a select few Windows 11 users may find their ability to play League is impacted, especially if you modified registry keys to bypass this requirement.” Riot also released a statement on Reddit, saying that about 0.7% of its LoL player base bypassed the Windows 11 TPM requirement, and a smaller 0.03% had issues with Vanguard. However, given that League of Legends is such a popular game, with over 133 million active players in the last 30 days, according to data from ActivePlayer.io, this amounts to over 930 thousand and 40 thousand players, respectively. Players who do not have a TPM 2.0 module have two options to continue playing LoL: revert their computer to Windows 10 or buy new hardware. The former can be a huge hassle, while the latter involves spending hard-earned cash. So, it is usually more convenient to downgrade the operating system — further exacerbating Microsoft’s issue with Windows 11 losing market share to Windows 10. There have also been reports of Vanguard bricking some computers. Fortunately, it wasn’t an issue with the anti-cheat software; it was more about where Windows 11 was installed. Most TPM 2.0 activations require your computer to use UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), which requires that your operating system be installed on a GUID partition table (GPT) instead of the standard BIOS that uses Master Boot Record (MBR). If you switch to UEFI without moving your OS from MBR to GPT, it will simply refuse to boot. Thankfully, Microsoft has an easy solution for that. Furthermore, Vanguard for LoL does not use SecureBoot, as it causes issues for many older hardware configurations. Since League of Legends has been around since 2009, some of its players might be using computers that do not support it, especially those with older video cards. If you activate SecureBoot and your GPU does not support it, it will not render anything, leaving your monitor blank after turning on your PC. You need to disable SecureBoot in your BIOS by attaching the display to your integrated GPU or reset the BIOS by pulling out its CMOS battery. Although Vanguard would cause issues for some players and is an annoyance for many, Riot says that it’s an inevitable need to keep League of Legends a fair and healthy competitive platform. This is especially true after Riot Games was hacked in early 2023, and the source code for League of Legends and a legacy anti-cheat platform were stolen. Vanguard anti-cheat and the TPM requirement are necessary frustrations for LoL players to keep everyone on an even playing field. But until cheaters stop ruining games for everyone, we will only keep seeing more stringent and invasive anti-cheat measures in the future. • Liga Republika to boost PH League of Legends community

    Posted: 2024-04-28

METRO MANILA — Riot Games Philippines recently announced it will launch Liga Republika in 2024 to reignite the PH League of Legends community. Around 20 years ago, Defense of the Ancients (DoTA) was one of the Philippines’ most popular online and LAN games. Eventually, Riot Games’ League of Legends took over its spotlight and became a major part of the eSports scene. On April 26, 2024, Riot Games Brand Manager Kimi Salazar admitted that “eSports in the Philippines has not exactly a bit of what our players are looking for.” “We’ve listened to our players to grow our local community,” she added. That is why the gaming firm will launch Liga Republika with the following goal: “Introducing a League made by Pinoys, for Pinoy League of Legends players.” Also, it will help Riot Games search for the best League of Legends teams from all over the country. Country Manager Joel Guzman says the tournament will help these gamers prepare for future global tournaments. The nationwide tournament will host over 300 LoL players to win the ₱1 million prize pool and other perks. Riot Games will start things off with the Kickoff Invitational in May 2024. It will have eight teams from last year’s tournament, the Empyrean Cup 2023, competing for the top 4 slots. In June 2024, Liga Republika will let 384 teams register for the Open Qualifiers. A month later, it will let these teams compete for the top 12 spots. Afterwards, both Liga Republika segments will have 16 teams advance to the group stage in August. Liga Republika’s grand finale will occur offline at a LAN event where the top eight teams will compete in front of a live audience. The winner will earn the championship title and the lion’s share of the million-peso prize pool. Riot invites fans to follow League of Legends’ Instagram and Facebook pages for the latest updates. Aside from Liga Republika, the Country Manager says it will work with more online influencers and launch more events this year. • How to reach Emerald in League of Legends

    Posted: 2024-04-23

Emerald is League of Legends newest rank, and with it comes a load of changes to how the ranked system in League of Legends works behind the scenes, but how can you get this new awesome rank? Emerald is new in Season 13 of League of Legends and has been placed between Platinum and Diamond, so all of you players who get promoted from Platinum 1 will find yourself with an awesome new green rank. As we said, to reach Emerald, you need to get promoted from Platinum 1, which is no easy feat for most of us. That being said, climbing in League of Legends has never been easier than in Season 13. With the addition of Emerald to the League of Legends ranked ladder, the ranks are more evenly distributed and spread out, meaning that there is a larger player base in Gold, meaning more people are pushed up to Platinum, and therefore Emerald as well. Why did Riot Games add Emerald rank to League of Legends? Emerald was a great addition from Riot Games to League of Legends, and not just because the new green ranked icon is one of the best. In fact, the addition of Emerald brought the average rank of the League of Legends player base up from Silver to Gold, which is in line with all of their other games and most competitive online games that use a ranking system. This also worked well for the rest of the ranks, as Silver, Gold, and Platinum now have a lot more of an even distribution. Before Emerald was introduced, Silver had 9.0% of the player base, whereas now it only houses 7.3%. This might not sound like that much of a difference, but when you are talking about millions of daily players all around the world, that nearly 2.0% extra number of players really does add up! Can you get demoted to Emerald? Before Emerald was introduced, Silver had 9.0% of the player base, whereas now it only houses 7.3%. This might not sound like that much of a difference, but when you are talking about millions of daily players all around the world, that nearly 2.0% extra number of players really does add up! Yes, you can get demoted to Emerald from Diamond, and this is something you need to be wary of. With Emerald spreading the player base across more ranks on the ranked ladder, players have been dragged into the new rank from both high Platinum and low Diamond. This means if you were Diamond 4 last season, struggling to survive, you might want to get those few extra hours of practice in, as Emerald might just drag you down! • The Newest Version of Arena in League of Legends

    Posted: 2024-04-16

Arena is making its way back to League of Legends, and Riot has given the mode a facelift while also using its return as a testing period for making it a permanent mode in the client. Here is everything we know so far about Arena. Arena is returning to League of Legends for the third time, and this time Riot Games has made even more updates to gameplay and the mode’s systems. The developer previously announced that this version of the mode will feature more players than ever, with eight teams of two battling in every lobby, and a ranked system for those looking to challenge their 2v2 skills. Riot has also revealed that they are tinkering with making Arena a permanent mode, but that it will take some time to get that process rolling. So in the meantime, the developer is using this extended-release window to learn as much as possible from players battling for glory with their partners. Below is everything we know so far about the newest version of Arena in League of Legends. When will Arena come back to League of Legends? Arena returns to the League of Legends PBE on Wednesday, April 15, and releases for the rest of the player base on May 1 with patch 14.9. The ranked system’s release will be delayed until later in the season, specifically till patch 14.10. How long will Arena be in League of Legends? Arena will be live in the League of Legends client for the entire second split of the ranked season which is from May to the end of September. League of Legends Arena: New Map Riot is adding a new map called The Koi Pond to Arena. There are three segmented areas for players to battle, according to the pictures, and you should be able to travel to different areas via the Bloom Bridge, portals, and blast cones. A new shop area is also coming to this version of Arena which will align with the changing thematics coming to the game throughout Split 2. League of Legends Arena: Prismatic items Riot is adding a new item tier to Arena called Prismatic. These new items will feature incredibly high stats or powerful effects that should allow players to put together incredible champion builds. Prismatic items are not purchasable in the item shop. Players will be presented with their choice of random Prismatics in a specific round, similar to how Auguments worked in previous iterations of Arena. Another new wrinkle to items for Arena is Anvils. Anvils are purchasable in the shop and are consumables that will present three random items within a defined category that players can choose from. There are three types of Anvils: Prismatic, Legendary, and Stat. Prismatic gives players a choice between all Prismatic items. Legendary gives players a choice between items within a desired category like Legendary Mage, Legendary Fighter, and so on. Stat, however, gives players a randomized choice between raw stat upgrades. Anvils will also be cheaper than outright buying some of these items. League of Legends Arena: Ranked The ranked season for Arena will start on patch 14.10 with a one-patch pre-season beforehand. There are also some new matchmaking rules: Players can queue up with party sizes between 1-8 players. Players cannot queue up with party sizes between 9-15 players. Players can queue up as a full 16-player premade party. They will not see changes in MMR or Gladiator Rank. • Unveiling the Jungle XP Mystery in League of Legends

    Posted: 2024-03-29

Discover the frustration among League of Legends players as they unravel the mystery behind Jungle XP distribution. In a recent League of Legends post, players delve into the perplexing world of Jungle XP distribution, sparking a heated discussion Summary The Jungle XP distribution in League of Legends is causing frustration among players, with discrepancies in levels despite huge CS differentials. Players observe instances where a jungler with a significant CS lead and kills is still lagging behind in levels, raising concerns about the fairness of the system. While some argue that catch-up XP is necessary for game balance, others feel that the current system leads to unfair advantages and undermines skillful play. The Debate Unraveled League of Legends enthusiasts are baffled by the disparity between CS differentials and corresponding levels in jungle XP distribution. Many players, like zeyadhossam, express frustration at how significant leads in CS and kills do not translate to level advantages, highlighting instances where junglers are surprisingly lower in level than laners with fewer resources. On the other hand, B3ER acknowledges the existence of catch-up XP as a necessary mechanic to prevent certain strategies from dominating the game. This sentiment is echoed by Riot Games, who have implemented catch-up mechanics to balance gameplay and avoid snowballing scenarios. Examining XP Mechanics faxity raises an interesting point regarding the impact of champion levels on XP gains, suggesting that higher-level champions provide more XP upon death. This observation sheds light on the intricate details of XP distribution and emphasizes the complexity of game mechanics that influence leveling. No_Cauliflower633 brings another dimension to the discussion by speculating on shared XP from waves and its potential influence on leveling disparities. Additionally, LumiRhino emphasizes the significance of early camp XP and its limited impact on level progression, pointing out that the real level discrepancies manifest in the mid to late game. A Closer Look at Jungle Dynamics UngodlyPain emphasizes the role of catch-up XP in leveling the playing field and acknowledges the complexity of variables at play in determining level advantages. This acknowledgment of the multifaceted nature of XP distribution highlights the nuanced strategies and considerations that players must navigate in the realm of League of Legends. The debate surrounding Jungle XP in League of Legends reveals a confluence of perspectives, from frustration at perceived injustices to recognition of the equilibrium maintained by catch-up mechanics. As players continue to dissect the intricacies of XP distribution, one thing remains clear—the jungle remains a mysterious landscape where skill, strategy, and a dash of RNG intersect. • Best Orianna Counters In League of Legends

    Posted: 2024-03-15

If you feel powerless against Orianna when playing LoL, here are the best counters you should play to win more games this season. ORIANNA COUNTERS IN LOL – THE TOP THREE PICKS Orianna is a staple in the mid lane. Unless she is in a super weak spot, the mid lane mage will always be a powerful pick thanks to her zone control and teamfighting capability. A great Shockwave can single-handedly win a teamfight and deal an absurd amount of damage. While the champion has a relatively safe laning phase, she does have a few counters that she struggles against. Let’s go over the best three champions to beat her. If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. You will understand why counter picks are important, and how you need to take advantage of them to increase your win rate. Make sure to also understand how classes counter one another in LoL so you always know what to pick in each game. DIANA – THE EVERGREEN COUNTER One of the things Orianna struggles the most is mobility. Her skill shots and abilities are hard to hit on champions that have quick dashes, which makes Diana a great counter to Orianna. The former has stronger short trades and burst damage, making it easy to get an advantage during the laning phase. That said, the Diana player must wait a few levels and not get harassed by Orianna in the first three levels, given the range advantage it has. Depending on how well you can play around that, it will give you the chance to go for a kill later on. TALON – THE AD COUNTER If Diana is the AP assassin counter, then Talon is the AD version. Compared to Diana, the champion has better trading early on. That said, killing Orianna can be tricky post-level six as she can always land the Shockwave if Talon tries to approach her. What you should be doing as Talon is utilize the better roaming power to snowball the other lanes: Orianna won’t be able to match you in any way. VEIGAR – THE BETTER SCALING Orianna is a champion that scales with both levels and items, but Veigar does scale even more. The great thing about this matchup is that Veigar gets a free laning phase due to Orianna’s low early-game damage, and then scales harder later on. Unless you get camped or mess up heavily, you will always be in a leading position. Farm the stacks with your Q and then wait to blow her up with your abilities. WORST ORIANNA COUNTERS The issue in this matchup is that Yone can’t kill Orianna unless heavy mechanical mistakes occur. This is because the mid lane mage can harass Yone early on with the range advantage. On top of that, Yone is quite susceptible to Orianna’s Shockwave whenever Yone uses his own ultimate. The teleport behind the enemies makes him stand still for a brief moment, which allows Orianna to position her ball (with E or Q). LISSANDRA – COUNTERING YOURSELF Lissandra’s only way to win this lane is by coordinating with the jungler and camping the enemy. In a vacuum matchup, Lissandra will rarely win against Orianna. They have similar wave clearing but Orianna scales harder, and given Lissandra’s telegraphed engages with her E, the Lady of Clockwork will always place the ball close to where she will teleport and then hit the Shockwave. HOW DO YOU COUNTER ZOE WITH THE ITEMS? When going up against Zoe, it’s recommended to stack magic resistance to lower her burst damage. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing: Bruisers: Maw of Malmortius, Kaenic Rookern, Force of Nature AD assassins: Maw of Malmortius ADC champions: Maw of Malmortius, Wit’s End AP champions: Banshee’s Veil Tanks: Kaenic Rookern, Force of Nature WHAT CHAMPION COUNTERS ORIANNA? The three best counters are Diana, Talon and Veigar. Other strong counters are Jayce, Aurelion Sol, and Neeko. DOES SYNDRA COUNTER ORIANNA? Syndra does have a small advantage over Orianna since she excels at punishing immobile champions. She also has a small range advantage and more burst damage compared to her counterpart. That said, the matchup can become more volatile when junglers and the rest of the team composition are added to the equation. Depending on how impactful those elements can be, the matchup can be balanced out. Visit our website MMOWOW to purchase League of Legends Accounts at the cheapest rate on the web. • THE FIVE BEST SUPPORTS TO PAIR WITH SMOLDER IN LOL

    Posted: 2024-02-29

Here are the five best supports you should be playing alongside the newest marksman champion in LoL, Smolder. Smolder is the latest ADC to set foot in Summoner’s Rift. The champion, despite having a relatively easy kit to master, requires strong fundamentals and a good understanding of how to play around his weak early game. Farming consistent stacks while not bleeding out advantage requires skills but also a good support. In this list, we will be covering the five best supports for Smolder in its current form in LoL. The list can be dynamic and subject to changes, so we’ll make sure it’s always up to date. There are, however, some champions that have synergizing kits and will always work (unless they are incredibly weak in terms of numbers). Without further ado, let’s jump right into the best supports for Smolder. MAOKAI – THE META PICK Maokai works with nearly every single ADC, and Smolder is no exception. Thanks to his crowd controls and ability to lock down targets, he can both engage and peel for Smolder in every single trade or skirmish. On top of that, he can abuse his saplings to grant extra vision, making it hard for Smolder to be susceptible to ganks. He will be getting nerfed soon, though, so take advantage of this pick now as much as possible. JANNA – THE BEST ENCHANTER Janna is the best pick when it comes to playing an enchanter with Smolder. This is because she has the best peeling potential currently and multiple tools to prevent the ADC from getting caught or taken down. Whether it’s the shield, tornado (Q), or ultimate, she can make sure Smolder can survive the enemy threats and dish out damage as he pleases. You will lose a bit of laning power, though, but you’re not looking to play aggressively with Smolder anyway. MILIO – THE JANNA ALTERNATIVE If you’re not proficient with Janna, then we can recommend playing Milio as Janna’s enchanter alternative. The support offers similar tools in terms of peeling power, although the disengage potential is not as strong. That said, Milio offers additional damage and gives Smolder the ability to auto attack from a longer range with the Cozy Campfire. It’s not a big bonus but it can matter in specific scenarios around the key teamfights. Regardless, focus on farming and scaling to the later stages of the game: that’s when this combo really starts to shine. KARMA – PUTTING MORE LANE PRESSURE Karma, compared to the two picks on this list, wants to protect Smolder by constantly putting pressure on the enemy team. Poking and harassing so that the opponents cannot engage in trades with the ADC is the logic behind this pick. It’s a bit harder to do consistently since it depends on the matchup, but Karma is a decent option to play alongside Smolder, especially now that she abuses Malignance to have multiple empowered abilities on a short cooldown. THRESH – ONE OF THE BEST ENGAGE SUPPORTS WITH SMOLDER If you want to play something more tanky and similar to Maokai, then look no further than Thresh. His kit is one of the most versatile in the game, offering both engage and disengage options. The best thing is that with both Smolder’s E and Thresh’s lantern, the chances of the ADC getting shut down are quite low. That said, you need to be mechanically proficient at this champion, so make sure to fully master it before playing it in your ranked games. These are the 5 best supports for Smolder to play in season 14 of League of Legends! Did we miss any? Let us know!
